We are less than seven months away from the latest Spidey-verse spin-off, Kraven the hunter. Sony has not yet released the full synopsis for the upcoming film, but the general basis of the film is that Sergei Kravinoff is on a mission to prove that he is the best hunter in the world. Sony has been on a mission to expand the Spideyverse from as far away as spider man 3. Given the films Sony has made so far, it’s obvious what mistakes the company needs to avoid. Kraven the hunter It could be a great spin-off movie if done right. The character has a rich history in the comics and doesn’t necessarily have to rely on Spider-Man to actually exist.
Kraven can’t be an antihero
According to the trailers, Kraven appears as an antihero. This is easily the biggest problem with spin-offs like Poison and morbium. Sony needs to figure out why audiences should care about this future Spider-Man villain. They can’t capitalize on Spider-Man’s story and not give viewers a reason why they should continue shelling out money for these spin-offs that don’t really have many ties to the main Spider-Man.
Cheesy superpowers
Another problem with the trailer: Kraven the Hunter has superpowers. In the comics, Kraven is a normal human being. However, with the help of various herbs and potions, he gains incredible strength and power. Unfortunately, Sony already gave him superpowers. Hopefully, he doesn’t seem cheesy. There is a way to reverse the mythology of him that makes him a more intriguing character. There is potential for Kraven the hunter to be a good genuine surprise that these Spidey spin-offs desperately need. Sony just needs to embrace what made Kraven such an iconic villain in the comics.
