Delhi hospital patient killed ‘by mistake’; rival gangster was real target

Delhi Police on Monday arrested two people in connection with the fatal incident. A 32-year-old patient was shot inside Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital Recently, after an initial investigation, police discovered that the patient who was killed in Ward 24 of the hospital was attacked “by mistake.”

The attackers had gone to the hospital to kill a gangster – a rival of Hasim Baba’s gang who was also shot by some people and was admitted in the same ward for some time – but shot Riyazuddin, who was lying on the bed opposite him, police said.

According to police, two accused, identified as Faiz (20) and Farhan, were arrested from Uttar Pradesh and Delhi respectively. CCTV footage and technical surveillance of the hospital showed four accused entering the hospital, police said.

“Faiz was captured from Loni, Uttar Pradesh, while Farhan was captured from Seelampur, Delhi,” police said. However, police said the two suspects may not have fired at the hospital.

Faiz and Farhan were allegedly involved in providing a motorcycle to four accused who went to the hospital.

The mastermind of the murder, Faheem alias Badshah Khan, and the 18-year-old boy opened fire in hospitalare still at large.

“We are interrogating them (Faiz and Farhan) and will remand them to find out who shot the person (the patient). Our teams are working tirelessly to nab the rest of the accused. We will nab them soon,” the news agency said. PTI Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Surendra Choudhary said:

“Several teams were formed to investigate the case and nab the accused. The teams identified the people seen in the images based on the inputs they received. Their social media addresses were also obtained and their mobile numbers were verified. We verified the call details and a few more suspects were identified,” the DCP added.

Meanwhile, The hospital’s doctors have started an indefinite strike. They demonstrated today against the gang war that broke out at the hospital. The doctors said they were forced to go on strike after the city government failed to heed their long-pending demand for security.

“Despite several appeals, no hearing has been held on the matter. The Resident Doctors Association (RDA) prioritizes the safety and well-being of all hospital staff, patients and their companions,” it said.

Reacting to the shooting, Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “A safety review of all hospitals will be conducted and any negligence will not be tolerated.”

Further investigations into the matter are underway and efforts are being made to nab the other accused.
