“He made a mistake” – Joe Rogan bluntly criticizes veteran referee for “egregious” mistake at UFC Fight Night

No matter the sport, referees play a vital role in ensuring fair competition. However, even the most skilled and experienced referees can make mistakes, and these errors can have a significant impact on the outcome of a match, affecting athletes’ careers and potentially their health. This question was raised by Joe Rogan on his podcast.

Recently, Action Bronson, a huge fight fan and rapper, joined Joe Rogan as the two discussed the plight of referees by highlighting a controversial interruption in the main event of UFC Fight Night: Cannonier vs. Imavov.

The UFC world is still in an uproar over that crazy stoppage in last weekend’s main event, and referee Jason Herzog is still taking heat for it. During episode #2164 of ‘Joe Rogan Experience’, UFC commentator and Action Bronson discussed the tough life of a combat sports referee: the pressure, the danger. Bronson emphasized how referees have a tremendous weight on their shoulders but can’t exactly come out and defend themselves in public after a decision.

While discussing the referee’s responsibility to the fighters and themselves, Joe Rogan turned his attention to last week’s controversial stoppage in the main event of UFC on ESPN 57 between Jared Cannonier and Nassourdine Imavov. UFC analysts did not seem impressed by the calls received during the fight, as he mentioned: “I just think he made a mistake. I think sometimes guys make mistakes and maybe she thought Jared was out and maybe she thought he was standing and she was seeing that he was going to come back out. And then when he makes the call, suddenly, Jared covers.

However, this controversy over the arrest of the UFC referee is not the first to generate debate on Joe Rogan’s podcast. Do you remember legendary UFC fighter Tank Abbott? He appeared on Rogan’s show and took a shot at Big John McCarthy, a highly respected figure in MMA officiating.

The UFC legend revealed shocking facts about the “Great” John McCarthy

Tank Abbott and Big John McCarthy are two guys who have been there since the beginning of the UFC. They both left their mark on the sport, but for some reason things went wrong between them. Even after all these years, Abbott still seems to have a bit of a grudge against Big John McCarthy.

During the recent episode of the JRE MMA podcast, Joe Rogan mentioned that he liked McCarthy. Abbott, in classic fashion, responded by saying: “Well, you might like him, but he used his made-up character of ‘Big’ John to get me kicked off the show. He and his wife literally got me kicked off the show..”

This subsequently piqued Rogan’s curiosity, and he pressed Abbott for more details. The 59-year-old then dropped a bombshell claiming that Big John McCarthy was the reason he was kicked out of the UFC. He painted a picture of his contrasting origins: Abbott, a tough street fighter, and McCarthy, a cop for the Los Angeles Police Department.
