The F1 driver who ‘makes a lot of stupid mistakes’ already knows that the exit is sealed

Although Williams has not officially told Logan Sargeant that he is out and that Carlos Sainz is in, Juan Pablo Montoya says he knows and that it is time to start looking outside of F1 for a seat to compete in 2025.

Promoted to Formula 1 last year after his fourth place finish in the 2022 Formula 2 championship, Sargeant looked out of his depth from the start and it showed in his results.

By scoring just one point compared to teammate Alex Albon’s 27, he was granted a break for the 2024 season, but with the caveat of improving or not.

From the outside, the “or else” part leads the race.

In a season in which Williams has scored just two points in the overweight FW46, Sargeant not only has no points, but is also behind Albon in their head-to-head battles in qualifying and the race.

Montoya, a former McLaren driver, acknowledges that the American knows that his days are numbered.

“He already knows it, although they have not yet officially told him that he will no longer continue on the team,” said the Colombian. Radio Colombia.

“The moment they tell you, ‘Look, thank you very much for the last few years, we gave you the opportunity, but it didn’t work out, what a shame,’ they can also tell you to relax and focus on your future.

“Then Logan will relax a lot more, he won’t fight for that seat anymore and it will be really difficult for him to stay in Formula 1.”

Montoya believes that he should now start exploring his options outside of F1.

“If I were him, I would first talk to everyone to see if there is interest from another team,” he said, “but I would also start looking at IndyCar, WEC and other options for next year.”

“He has gone through difficult times and it is difficult. If you look at his performance in F3 and F2, it was very good.

“It’s sad because if you ask Albon, he’ll tell you that Sargeant is very fast, he does it very well, but he makes a lot of stupid mistakes.”

As for his replacement at Williams, it is rumored to be Carlos Sainz, although the Ferrari driver has denied reports that he has already signed for the Grove team.

Montoya believes it is only a matter of time.

“The most likely thing is that Carlos will end up at Williams. He is a better option right now than Audi,” he said. They have an organization that has already suffered over the years, they are already restructured and they are already moving up.

“They are going to improve and be a much better team. “They are getting better every year.”
