IAF fighter jets grounded for three weeks due to negligence

The crew of an F-16 from the IAF fighter jet squadron is grounded for three weeks after attacking the wrong targets in the Gaza Strip, Israeli state broadcaster KAN reported Monday morning.

The immobilization of the crew at the Ramón base reportedly followed two serious incidents in two weeks.

The first attack was carried out by entering incorrect waypoints on the ground.

A few days later, during a night flight to attack five targets in the Gaza Strip, the crew made the same mistake by misspelling one of the targets’ digits and hitting the wrong one, the KAN report added.

Negligence reports

“Procedures for verifying ground targets were not followed,” the Israeli Air Force (IAF) reportedly stated, adding that there was “negligence in entering waypoints, non-compliance with procedures in carrying out additional checks by the crew, failure to change habits, although procedures were changed after the first mistake.”

The IAF added that “no damage was caused nor were there any casualties in any of the cases.”
