‘You learn from mistakes’: Rohit Sharma recalls heartbreaking loss to England in T20 World Cup 2022 ahead of semi-final clash

Rohit Sharma is just two wins away from making history. He can become the second Indian captain, after the legendary MS Dhoni, to lead the team to a T20 World Cup title.

The right-handed batsman was part of the team that won India’s first and so far only T20 World Cup title back in 2007, but he is yet to lay his hands on the trophy as captain. In fact, he is yet to win any ICC trophy as captain. Last year it was close, but India ended up on the losing side of both the finals – the WTC and the ODI World Cup.

India has done very well in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 so far and Rohit Sharma is desperately hoping that he can lead the team to glory. For that to happen, India will first have to beat England in the semi-final. And the match will definitely bring back memories of the last meeting between the two teams.

You learn from mistakes: Rohit Sharma

The last T20I match between India and England was the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022. England had inflicted a humiliating 10-wicket defeat on India before beating Pakistan in the final. As India look to avenge that embarrassing defeat, their captain Rohit Sharma has said that his team has learned its lesson and will look to do things differently in the next match.

“In the last T20 World Cup, we obviously came up short with the bat. You learn from the mistakes you make in every game you play and you try to improve on that. You try to come out as a better player and then play as a team, a better team “Rohit Sharma said in a video released by the ICC.

“There are a few things we have discussed that we want to do slightly differently than we did last time. We play a lot of T20 cricket. Everyone knows exactly what is expected and what needs to be done to win games, win tournaments,” he added.

Meanwhile, the winner of the semi-final between India and England will face South Africa in the final. South Africa, on Thursday (June 27), thrashed Afghanistan by 9 wickets to book their place in the T20 World Cup final for the first time.
