Going on vacation is always an exciting time, but like most things these days, they can get quite expensive.
That’s why knowing simple ways to reduce costs is always helpful, no matter how small they are.
If you’re only carrying hand luggage and don’t want to splurge on a 20kg bag, you’ll know that at UK airports you should keep your liquids under 100ml in a ziplock plastic bag for security staff to collect. check.
And for many of us, the easiest option is to carry mini-sized versions of our favorite shampoo, conditioner, body wash or body lotion that meet the size regulations of your chosen airport.
However, one experienced traveler on social media has advised against this option, stating that it is “wasting a lot of money” and that there is a much cheaper alternative.
Lauren, also known as @blackgirlsinwanderlust on TikTok, aims to “disinfluence” people from spending unnecessary money on expensive miniatures, although it may seem like the more convenient option, especially if you’re in a last-minute rush.
In one of his recent videos, which has racked up more than 415,900 views, he told travelers to “stop” doing this. She said: “They are very expensive and you usually don’t use all the product and they take up too much space.”
He noted that it may seem like a good idea “in theory,” but limited space means you should think about other ways to store liquids in your carry-on.
Instead, it may be “much cheaper” to simply decant your own produce into travel-sized containers, but try to avoid the hard plastic 3oz ones you usually see, as they will take up too much space.
Lauren recommended buying 1- or 2-ounce containers, which can still hold a good amount of product, and you can measure out each product based on how much you use in a day. She said, “This way, you can save a lot of space in your bag, and you don’t need to spend a ton of money on travel-sized toiletries either.”

“Contact lens cases are great for skincare! You only need a small amount of things like eye cream and serums or even a mask,” one person wrote.
