A golden retriever owner told him Newsweek Magazine Why your adorable dog falls asleep a little while playing fetch, as shown in his hilarious TikTok video when he makes a classic mistake.
The footage shows Dexter playing with his friend, Emilia, and as the game progresses, the inevitable happens… he gets distracted and takes his eyes off the ball.

“Although ‘retriever’ is in Dexter’s breed name, he’s more of a bronze retriever and not the best at dropping the ball, either,” owner Emma Graves said.

Just as Dexter turns back to Emilia for another throw, he glances back at the person he’s filming for a moment and, taking advantage of her opportunity, Emilia has a little fun with her furry friend.
“Emilia loves playing fetch with him so as soon as Dexter got distracted she ran off with it but she was so fast he didn’t even realise she had caught the ball and was very confused,” added Graves, who lives in the UK.
Dexter, realizing too late that he has lost sight of the ball, wags his tail and follows his nose desperately searching for a clue.
The bewildered golden retriever is completely baffled, before finally turning around to see Emilia standing by her backyard slide, her beloved ball in hand.
The video, uploaded from Dexter’s TikTok account (@itsgoldendexter), became a source of entertainment for hundreds of other users who couldn’t get enough of his adorable attempt to find the ball and Emilia’s hilarious antics.
Graves said Newsweek Magazine that Emilia and Dexter are best friends, and she is his biggest fan since she created her TikTok account.
“She watches every video and laughs at how silly it can be and we even made her a calendar with Dexter, which she loves.”
Graves uploaded a video of the little girl’s joyful reaction upon receiving the calendar, giving her photo a kiss.
Golden retrievers are renowned for their friendly and easygoing temperament, making them one of the most popular family dog breeds worldwide.
According to Statista statistics, the Golden Retriever was the most popular dog breed in the United States in 2009 and the third most popular in 2015 and 2022.
Golden retrievers are also described as gentle and patient, traits that are especially beneficial in homes with small children.
Responding to the online backlash, Graves said: Newsweek Magazine: “I’m always amazed when simple videos from everyday life seem to reach so many people and put a smile on someone’s face.”
