Star Wars Fixed One Of Its Biggest Mistakes Years Ago And We All Miss It

A big mistake has been fixed

One of the biggest crimes in the galaxy was fixed years ago and I’m not talking about a popular Jedi being murdered in Sheev Palptine’s office or the release of The Last Jedi and The Rise of SkywalkerI’m referring to the injustice of Chewbacca not receiving his well-deserved medal.

Any Star Wars fan will feel this frustration during the ceremony that concluded Star Wars: Episode IV – A new hopeCertainly, when it comes to the destruction of the Death Star, Luke Skywalker deserves his due, and so does the pilot of the Millennium Falcon, Han Solo.

However, during the aforementioned ceremony, everyone’s favorite princess, Princess Leia, awarded Luke Skywalker and Han Solo big, shiny medals for their heroism, and rightfully so. Sadly, Chewie was totally discredited and never received his well-deserved medal (RD-D2 and C-3PO could make a case for that, too).

To be fair, Chewie was treated like a complete fool and was even forced to pose for a photo in front of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, both of whom looked understandably beaming. In fact, I had this recurring conversation about this injustice with my son the other day.

However, that mistake has been corrected (somewhat) in the novelization of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope which was based on an initial script for the film.

Okay, I’m about to get on my pedestal, so I’m going to get nervous. Reddit user prudent_rodent shared a paragraph from the novel detailing how Chewie receives his medal. Which begs the question: why was Chewie’s big moment cut from the movie?

“She (Princess Leia) placed something heavy and gold around Solo’s neck, then Chewbacca’s (having to strain to do so) and finally around Luke’s,” it reads. “She then signaled to the crowd and the rigid discipline dissolved as every man, woman and mechanic present was allowed to give vent to his feelings.

Another Reddit user also mentioned that this scene where Chewie got his medal also appeared in a Star Wars comic adaptation. A new hopeStill, I refuse to be unbothered by the fact that Chewie never got his big moment on the big screen.
