Whitmer’s former opponent warns Democrats would make a huge mistake if they replaced Biden with her

MILWAUKEE — Former Michigan Republican gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon warned that adding Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to the presidential ticket would be a bad move for Democrats but “fantastic” for Republicans.

There have been rumors circulating in recent weeks that President Biden will cave to pressure and drop out of the 2024 presidential race, with some saying Whitmer would be a top choice to fill the role. Dixon told Fox News Digital that she has heard rumors that Whitmer would be a top choice to be Kamala Harris’ vice president, which she called “shocking” but also “fantastic” for Republicans.

“I think that would be absolutely fantastic for us as Republicans, because I know that she has strong weaknesses when it comes to debating and for her to go up against a senator, JD Vance, that would be a huge challenge for her and it would show the country exactly who she is.”

Biden called on Americans to “lower the temperature on our politics” following the assassination attempt on Trump, but Republicans have criticized his campaign for launching more negative attacks since the assassination attempt. Whitmer is no stranger to criticism for inciting violence dating back to 2020, when Trump’s campaign hit her for appearing on camera while the digits “8645” in bubble letters sat next to a houseplant on a coffee table behind her.

At the time, Trump’s campaign accused her of encouraging an assassination attempt, given that “86” can be shorthand for killing someone.

“She’s always gone out and told people that this person or that person is a threat,” Dixon said. “There’s a threat here. There’s a threat to their reproductive rights, and it’s all going to be taken away from them. But, you know, you talk about the 86, 45, and let’s not forget that she went on national television and literally called for the assassination of Donald Trump on her set right behind her, for the entire country to see. I can’t think of anything more disgusting than having a sitting governor come out and call for the assassination of a sitting president.”

DO THESE POSSIBLE BIDEN REPLACEMENTS HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BEAT TRUMP?

Whitmer, who has long been rumored to be an option for Democrats if Biden drops out, would fare better in a matchup with Trump, with a November Fox News poll showing the Democratic governor within the former president’s margin of error, garnering 46% of support from registered voters compared to Trump’s 48%.

The two-term governor of the key Midwestern state could be an attractive option for Democrats, though Whitmer has reportedly expressed annoyance that her name is being mentioned as a possible replacement for Biden. In response to a recent Politico report that the Michigan governor warned the Biden campaign that the president no longer had a chance of winning her home state after the debate, Whitmer took to social media and claimed that anyone who thinks she would make such a claim is “full of s**t.”
