Newcastle woman mistakes $1 million lottery win for $1,000 – NBN News

A New South Wales woman got the scare of her life after initially mistaking her $1 million lottery prize for $1000 because she misread the commas correctly.

The woman, from Newcastle, discovered she was one of five winners of Saturday’s Lotto division who pocketed $1,012,896.39.

She confessed to Lott that she first thought she had won $1,000.

“I didn’t look at all the commas,” he added.

“I had to call my sister because I couldn’t read it properly! Wow!”

He said he doesn’t usually play the Saturday Lotto and had bought the ticket on a whim.

“I am in shock. I can’t believe it. I always dreamed of winning. This will change my life completely, let’s put it that way!” he said.

Having slept just two hours since winning, he said he now plans to invest his winnings into a savings fund.

“My priority is to pay off the house and go from there, regardless of what the financial advisor tells me. I want to have a savings fund for the future,” she said.

The winning numbers for Saturday’s draw were 31, 30, 23, 29, 17 and 25, while the additional numbers were 6 and 14.

There were five winning entries in Saturday’s Lotto Premier Division: three from Victoria, one from New South Wales and one from Queensland.
