Bobbi Brown Says This Is The Biggest Makeup Mistake People Make

  • Bobbi Brown shared what she thinks is the biggest makeup mistake people make.
  • “A lot of people come in and don’t like the overly made-up look, but they don’t know what to do,” she said.
  • Here’s what you should do instead:

There’s a fine line between perfecting a no-makeup look and applying a minimal amount of product to look basically the same as before application. Therein lies what Bobbi Brown considers the biggest makeup mistake people make. You may think that wearing too much makeup a lot Makeup is the most common beauty mistake, but it’s often not applied enough, according to the founder of Jones Road Beauty.

That doesn’t mean the 67-year-old expects everyone to step out in ’80s blue smoky eyes and pink lips. It just means that to make a statement, you have to actually use the products in front of you (which, in her humble opinion, should be from Jones Road Beauty).

“I think really the biggest mistake people make is they don’t wear enough makeup or they don’t wear the right makeup,” she recently told Very simple“A lot of people come in and don’t like the overly made-up look, but they don’t know what to do.”

In other words, they’re afraid to mess around with products and accidentally overdo it. But don’t worry, Brown said that’s not how it works. “One of my challenges is teaching my makeup artists how to make it look like they’re not wearing makeup,” she said, even though they’re actually using a significant amount of product. It’s all about tone (getting the right shade of foundation and concealer), using neutral colors and adding texture that brings life back to the skin.

“You need to brighten the under-eye area, you need enough blush, and if you have oily skin, you need powder, but when you choose the right products (the Jones Road one) doesn’t feel cakey,” Brown explained. “I like to choose the right textures for your skin. It’s so important to know what your skin (and your changing skin) needs. And I think a lot of traditional makeup on the market makes you look over-made up, so you have to find something that works with your skin.”

For example, Brown’s technique for achieving bright, awake dark circles involves using two concealer pencils, which sounds like a lot, but they’re super easy to use, require minimal product, and leave skin looking, well, skin-like. “I like to pick a concealer that’s one shade lighter than what you’re putting on your face because that just brightens it up,” she said. “One is fine, but if you pick another shade that’s more of a neutralizer (color-correcting) and apply it to that deeper area, it brings everything up and you look brighter under your eyes.”

Another trick to avoid the over-the-top look is to “not be afraid of moisturizers,” says Brown. “A lot of people don’t use moisturizers, honestly, and that’s why everything looks dry and cakey. Sometimes when I’m having a bad beauty day, I’ll just use a bar of oil and apply it all over my face and I look so much better. It gives the skin the glow and the hydration it needs.”
