Pop star Justin Timberlake’s lawyer said today that the singer was not drunk when he was stopped by traffic police last month while driving in the posh New York resort of the Hamptons.

The lawyer claims that the documents filed by police in the pop star’s case are riddled with errors. However, a judge in Sag Harbor, where he was charged, requested that Timberlake be arraigned again on August 2 with the corrected documentation.

Timberlake did not attend today’s hearing. Timberlake’s attorney, Edward Burke, said after the hearing that police made “very significant mistakes” and he hopes the charges will be dismissed.

Burke also claimed Timberlake was not drunk driving. “I was not drunk. I’ll say it again. Justin Timberlake was not drunk,” Burke told reporters outside the courthouse.

Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney’s office, which is handling the case, described the paperwork issue as a “departmental error” and that an amended charging document was filed on July 2.

“The facts and circumstances of the case have not been changed or amended,” spokeswoman Emily O’Neill said in an email.

Timberlake was charged with drunken driving a month ago in a town in the exclusive New York resort of the Hamptons, where police said he failed to stop at a stop sign and veered from his lane into the oncoming traffic lane.

The boy band singer turned solo star and actor was driving the latest BMW, a 2025 model, in Sag Harbor overnight Monday into Tuesday when a police officer pulled him over and determined he was intoxicated, according to court documents.
