Kamika Ekadashi 2024: Don’t make THESE mistakes during fasting

There are two Ekadashis during this month. One is during Krishna Paksha and the other is during Shukla Paksha. The one observed during Krishna Paksha is known as Kamika Ekadashi and the other one observed during Shukla Paksha is known as Putrada Ekadashi.

Ekadashi day has a great significance in Hinduism. However, this day during the month of Sawan has a much more religious significance. There are two Ekadashis during this month. One is during Krishna Paksha and the other is during Shukla Paksha. The one observed during Krishna Paksha is known as Kamika Ekadashi and the other one which is observed during Shukla Paksha is known as Putrada Ekadashi. This Kamika Ekadashi is considered auspicious because there is a yoga to be formed on the day. This is known as Sarvartha Siddhi Yog.

Kamika Ekadashi Date

Kamika Ekadashi is celebrated in honour of Lord Vishnu. According to Drik Panchang, Kamika Ekadashi will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 31, 2024. The Kamika Ekadashi Tithi will begin on July 30 at 4:44 PM and end on July 31 at 3:55 PM.

Dos and Don’ts During Kamika Ekadashi Fasting

It is believed that worshipping Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva while observing fast on this day absolves sins and grants liberation. Below are some do’s and don’ts.

  • Worship Lord Vishnu, Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Shiva with true devotion.
  • Eat sattvic foods but avoid rice.
  • Light a ghee lamp near the Tulsi plant at night and chant Vishnu mantras.
  • Follow the rules of celibacy during the Ekadashi fast.
  • Do not offer water to the Tulsi plant on Kamika Ekadashi as Goddess Tulsi observes a waterless fast in honour of Lord Vishnu on this day.
  • Do not pluck tulsi leaves on this day. It is believed that you will not receive the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi if you do so.
  • Those who observe the fast should not wear black clothes.
  • It is forbidden to eat rice on this day.
  • Do not touch the Tulsi plant with dry or unclean hands.
