fans of Twilight The couple of Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson got quite angry in 2012, when photos of her and Rupert Sanders, the director of their film, were published. snow white and the huntsman, kisses. But, of course, those directly involved had it much worse.
Nearly five years later, Sanders talks about what he learned from that difficult time after the photos were published in Us weekly.
“You never know what’s coming in life,” said Sanders, now 46 and promoting her latest film, Scarlett Johansson. ghost in the shellsaid Meter. “There is something unexpected around every corner, and that’s life. You just have to ignore yourself and keep moving forward as best you can. We all make mistakes. “I’m destined to make more mistakes and I wouldn’t expect my life to be exciting if I didn’t.”
At the time the photos were released, Sanders had been married to model Liberty Ross for about a decade and they already had two children. “I love you with all my heart,” he said in a quick apology. “I’m praying we can get through this together.”
Evidently, they couldn’t and Ross filed for divorce in January 2013. She married music producer Jimmy Iovine in 2016.
Stewart, who was only 21 at the time, also apologized.
“I am deeply sorry for the pain and embarrassment I have caused those close to me and everyone this has affected,” he said. “This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love it. I love it. Very sorry.”
Sadly, Stewart and Pattinson went their separate ways in 2013, although that’s more likely due to their age than the infamous photos. Stewart has since gone on to date model Stella Maxwell, while Pattinson is engaged to musician FKA twigs.
The actress reflected on the difficult times she faced around the time of the Sanders affair in a July 2015 interview with Marie Claire. “I set my universe on fire and watched it burn,” she said. “Quite frankly, it was a really traumatic period when I was in my twenties that triggered something in me that was a little wilder.”
Stewart and Sanders have yet to work together again and neither worked on the sequel to their big-budget film, but they are both still working hard.
“If you took people away from the table for a moment,” Sanders said, “there wouldn’t be anyone making art.”
