Jorge Martin’s abrupt exit from the German MotoGP Grand Prix when he was leading the race with one lap to go is reminiscent of a similar incident at the Spanish GP last April. These are two potential victories that have been lost and, in the case of Sachsenring, the accident has also cost him the championship lead, which now belongs to Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati).
Former driver Dani Pedrosa acknowledged, in statements to DAZN, that it is a mentally demanding situation, especially in the moments immediately following an incident of this nature:
– It’s certainly not an easy situation when you’re leading the World Championship, your rival is putting pressure on you, you have those 25 points, you’re in that psychological battle we were talking about and the move goes wrong. When you crash like that with two laps to go and you’re left with zero points, it weighs heavily. It’s not easy to manage, especially in those first few hours.
The current KTM test rider also played down the impact of a mistake, emphasising that in a championship with more than 20 rounds, mistakes are natural: ‘Now he has three weeks that will seem a bit long, so it is important to put this behind him and continue as he was in a world championship where there are more than 20 races. It is normal to fail in some, obviously the fewer the better, like these forced errors he made, but the situation is what it is and we have to look forward.‘.
