Blackpink’s Jennie apologizes for ‘vaping indoors’ and ‘deeply regrets her mistake’

Blackpink’s Jennie Kim didn’t mean to offend anyone by using a vape in an enclosed space.

After fans spotted the 28-year-old South Korean singer and actress using a steamer while doing her hair and makeup in a vlog shared on her YouTube channel on July 2, her representatives issued a statement apologizing for the action via social media a week later.

“We sincerely apologize to everyone who felt uncomfortable with Jennie’s actions in the content posted on the 2nd,” reads the July 9 note from OA Entertainment, the record label founded by the singer in 2023.

“Jennie acknowledges and deeply regrets her mistake of vaping indoors and causing inconvenience to staff,” the statement continued. “Jennie has personally apologized to all staff at the establishment who may have been affected.”

OA Entertainment continued, “We apologize to fans who were disappointed by this incident. We hope to prevent this from happening again in the future. Thank you.”

The YouTube video, titled “A moment in Capri with Jennie,” was edited to omit the shot of the star smoking in an enclosed space. Aside from the controversial moment, the rest of the clip shows her preparing to make her runway debut at fashion designer Jacquemus’ show in Italy on June 10.

Following her 2018 debut as a solo artist with the aptly titled single “Solo,” Jennie released two follow-up songs as a lead artist: “You & Me” and “One of the Girls” featuring The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp of The idolwhich co-starred the Blackpink member, in 2023. Last year, she released collaborations with Zico (“Spot!”) and Matt Champion (“Slow Motion”).

She spoke about her plans to release more music in a May interview with Vogue KoreaShe told the outlet, “I’m spending almost the entire day working on my music. I lost track of time. I’m working hard with the desire to share my music with more people and a bolder ambition, so please look forward to it. I’ll be back with a great performance to live up to that expectation.”

Last year, Blackpink became the most streamed girl group on Spotify with their songs, including hits like “How You Like That,” “Kill This Love,” and “DDU-DU DDU-DU,” amassing over 8.8 billion total streams.
