Nigeria, what a nation!: “(Nigeria) has announced the establishment of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development. This decision, revealed during the inauguration of the Presidential Committee on Livestock Reforms at the State House in Abuja, is seen as a vital step towards modernizing livestock production and resolving the long-standing crisis that has plagued Nigeria.”
I think that would give us about 46 ministers for an economy of less than $500 billion. In the United States, the economy is run by about 15 ministers (yes, secretaries). I wish the nation good luck in its bureaucratic expansion.
A better idea would have been to create an agency within the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and then allocate more resources to that agency. That would save the new administrative costs that this new ministry will generate. That said, good luck again, Nigeria; whatever works is the best strategy.
