Justin Gaethje admits mistakes in Max Holloway fight strategy and shares what he would change

Justin Gaethje recently admitted that he had made several mistakes during their fight at UFC 300. On an episode of ‘The Anik and Florian Podcast,’ Gaethje praised Max Holloway for his incredible performance on the night of April 13. However, he insisted that the outcome could have been different if he had adopted a better strategy to fight ‘Blessed.’

Holloway presented a much more lethal version of himself on the night of April 13, as he was determined not to lose his second fight at lightweight. Although the former BMF champion put up quite a fight in the opening minutes, ‘Blessed’ tightened his grip on the fight as time went on.

Gaethje mentioned that his strategy was not on point, as Holloway was much more accurate than he expected. The Arizona native also mentioned that he would have put more pressure on Holloway if he had managed to figure out his strategy.

“I would have pushed harder, I would have tried to move forward. (But) I thought he would come closer to me, (which didn’t happen)”

Well, Holloway resorted to his usual fighting style towards the end. He even asked Gaethje to stand up and trade blows in the center of the Octagon in the final ten seconds. But by then, “The Highlight” had suffered a lot of damage, along with a broken nose that limited his ability.

Ultimately, Gaethje crashed hard to the canvas and was completely knocked out. Unfortunately, the loss even took its toll on “The Diamond” as he intends to take a major break before returning to the Octagon.

Gaethje had intended to sit out at least six months before returning to the Octagon.

Gaethje took a lot of damage in their UFC 300 BMF title fight. Holloway’s precise strikes resulted in several bruises in addition to a bloody nose for the Arizona native. In a recent interview, ‘The Highlight’ mentioned that while he could prepare for their next encounter in a few days, it would be foolish for him to do so, saying:

“I think because of the repeated concussions, falling asleep like that and getting that injection, it would be foolish to go back to training before 180 days.”

Well, the exciting nature of Gaethje’s fights may make fans look forward to his next encounter in the Octagon soon. However, in this sport of blood and injuries, it is extremely important for athletes to take care of their health enough.

Gaethje did not fail to deliver another big blow despite suffering a loss at UFC 300. Now it is time for fans to understand and give him enough room to recover so he can return to the Octagon with the same enthusiasm.
