The technician, Janardhanan Kadamberi, had come to repair the washing machine, which had not been working for two weeks. After making the initial repairs, Kadamberi switched on the machine to check its working order.
Noticing that there was something inside, Kadamberi put his hand into the machine, thinking it was a piece of cloth. Realising that it was a snake, he quickly withdrew his hand and informed Babu, the owner of the house, according to a report by India Today.
Babu appeared shocked and bewildered, stating that they had no idea how the snake had gotten trapped inside the washing machine, as the lid had remained closed during the two weeks it was out of service. He mentioned that there seemed to be no way for the snake to get inside the machine.
Babu then got in touch with an animal rescuer from the Malabar Wildlife Rescue and Awareness Centre (MARC).
Anil Trichambaram, a MARC rescuer, reached the spot and safely removed the baby cobra from the washing machine. He later released the snake into the forest. Anil informed Manorama that this was the first time they had found a cobra inside a washing machine. He claimed that the two- to three-week-old cobra might have entered through the drain pipe.
