WWE failed to capitalize on internet sensation Logan Paul’s US title reign.
Logan Paul came to WWE as a major internet sensation, and in just two years, he was competing against top main event talents such as Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns. Additionally, The Maverick defeated Rey Mysterio at last year’s WWE Crown Jewel event to win his first championship, the WWE United States Championship.
However, what was envisioned as a monumental reign turned out to be unappealing and heavily criticized by WWE. Here are the four mistakes WWE made during Logan Paul’s United States Title reign:
4. Part-time champion
Despite WWE deciding to put the United States Championship on the line, Logan Paul was always presented as a part-time attraction, considering his commitments outside of WWE and being a megastar around the world. However, moving into an era of full-time champions since WrestleMania 40, the WWE Universe roundly rejected Paul for being a part-time champion who made very limited appearances.
3. Only two defenses in a long title reign
The WWE Universe was completely stunned to witness Logan Paul’s in-ring prowess despite not having any formal wrestling training. After winning the United States Title from Rey Mysterio in 2023, fans were hoping to see that talent in the ring more often. However, WWE only scheduled two title defenses during Logan Paul’s 250+ day reign as champion, failing to prove his credibility as a champion in the global juggernaut.
2. No new stars were created with its stellar power.
Logan Paul’s star power and fame are undoubtedly greater than many WWE Superstars on the main roster today. WWE could have used this opportunity to build new stars at the expense of The Maverick’s championship reign with top-level in-ring matchups. However, with only two matches and no relevant rivalries, WWE failed to push the up-and-coming stars forward.
However, they are finally doing so now with LA Knight after booking him for a United States Title match against Logan Paul at their upcoming premium live event, WWE SummerSlam.
1. The lineage of the American title has not been elevated
The history and rich lineage of the WWE United States Championship make it one of the most credible titles in sports-entertainment. It has been held by legendary names and Hall of Famers over the years, who have taken the prestige of the championship to a different level. However, it can be said that WWE’s signing of Logan Paul as champion has seemingly debased the championship in the present day, making it an afterthought, while Paul himself hasn’t been promoted much as a United States Champion outside of WWE.
