KUCHING (June 13): Domestic automaker Proton has apologized for mixing Sarawak and Sabah on a map in a presentation during the launch of its e.Mas brand for its upcoming electric vehicles (EV).

“Proton acknowledges an error in a filing that wrongly labeled the states of Sabah and Sarawak.

“We deeply regret this mistake and understand the sensitivities it has raised among our fellow Malaysians,” the company said in a notice posted on its social media accounts today.

He said he holds the unity and diversity of Malaysia in the highest regard and is committed to respecting and celebrating all states equally.

“We sincerely apologize for any misunderstanding caused and appreciate any public comments.

“We will ensure greater care in our future efforts. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.”

The launch took place yesterday in Kuala Lumpur.

The error was widely criticized by Internet users, many of whom were upset that organizations on the peninsula continue to make errors of this type.

Among those who expressed their discontent was Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.

“After 60 years of Malaysia. If big Malaysian corporations still don’t know simple facts, how do ordinary Malaysians behave?

“What else doesn’t the rest of Malaysia know about Sabah or Sarawak?” Dr Sim asked on his Facebook page.
