US-based travel influencer Priyanka Juneja has shed light on three classic mistakes people make when planning a trip to Greece. Here’s what to avoid!
Greece is undoubtedly an idyllic holiday destination.
With countless picturesque beaches and a rich cultural history, there are plenty of things to see and do. But Priyanka Juneja, a US-based travel blogger, suggests that tourists make three classic mistakes when exploring this European destination.
On TikTok (@psjuneja), she said: “You definitely don’t want to make these mistakes when planning a trip to Greece.
“Firstly, if you can, try to avoid travelling to Greece during the peak season, as it will be very crowded and you are less likely to find hotel deals.” Priyanka said June, July and August are the busiest months for tourists.
On the other hand, its tourist spots are much less crowded during May, September and October, the months when many children return to school after the summer holidays.
He added: “Don’t make the mistake of travelling only to Santorini or Mykonos for example (…) there is a lot to discover.”
Believe it or not, Greece is made up of no less than 6,000 islands, of which only 227 are inhabited. Kefalonia, Icaria, Sifnos and Folegandros are among the most overlooked hidden gems of the Greek islands, according to Original Travel.
Kefalonia in particular is also frequented by loggerhead turtles and even boasts a stunning red sand coastline known as Xi Beach.
Finally, Priyanka spoke about the Greek capital, Athens, which was once the heart of ancient Greece. She continued: “Don’t forget Athens, it’s a great city and a lot of people overlook it and go straight to the Greek islands. I think that’s a big mistake.”
Unsurprisingly, Priyanka’s views quickly caught the attention of the internet and many viewers also agreed with her point of view. One person wrote: “I visited Crete, Milos, Athens and Santorini. My least favourite destination was Santorini.”
Another added: “How can people skip Athens?” while someone else chimed in: “I just visited Athens and literally loved it so much it was my dream to see it.”
