Willy Adames hit a three-run homer to help the Milwaukee Brewers to an 8-3 comeback victory over the visiting Atlanta Braves on Monday in the opener of a three-game series. Rookie Jackson Chourio had a two-run homer and Rhys Hoskins added a solo shot for Milwaukee. Hoby Milner (4-1) earned the win in relief. Marcell Ozuna, Orlando Arcia and Sean Murphy hit solo homers to add the Braves’ three runs. After being held to one run through five innings by Grant Holmes, the Brewers broke through in the sixth against Jesse Chavez (1-2). Brice Turang led off with a single to center and William Contreras walked. Turang advanced to third when Jake Bauers reached base on a fielder’s choice. Adames then sent an 0-2 pitch 416 feet to left-center for his 17th homer. The Brewers made it 5-2 in the seventh inning when Sal Frelick reached on a bunt and continued to second on a throwing error by reliever Aaron Bummer. Frelick scored when center fielder Jarred Kelenic came in on Joey Ortiz’s drive that sailed over Kelenic’s head for a triple. Chourio’s 12th homer in the eighth made it 7-2. The Brewers added another run when Garrett Mitchell singled and continued to third on a throwing error, then scored on Hoskins’ sacrifice fly. Murphy had a two-out homer, his sixth, in the ninth for Atlanta. Ozuna led off the fourth inning against Milwaukee starter Colin Rea with his 31st homer, second most in the NL behind Shohei Ohtani’s 32, to put the Braves up 1-0. Mitchell prevented a potential second homer with an inning-ending catch on Eddie Rosario’s drive off the top of the center-field wall. Arcia put the Braves up 2-0 in the fifth with his ninth homer, a one-out solo shot to center off Rea. Hoskins answered in the bottom half with a one-out solo shot, his team-best 18th homer, to make it 2-1. –Field Level Media
