Taking the driving test is not an easy task and everyone who passed it has memories of the nerves they felt or the mistakes they made that day.
The simplest or smallest mistake can mean the difference between passing and failing, which is even more annoying when you know you know how to drive well.
Now an Irish driving instructor has warned learner drivers about the easy mistake that could see them fail their test.

Lara Lewis took to TikTok to explain how the position in which new drivers stop on the road could be considered a mistake.
She told her followers: “So in a test you can get a fault for stopping in position. When we stop we have to make sure we do it without disturbing or blocking other road users.”
The instructor went on to explain that there are several reasons why stopping in position can cause a failure.
He added: “Examples of situations in which a stopping offense may be incurred on a driving test would be stopping too far from the curb, hitting or mounting the curb, stopping too close to the vehicle in front, or stopping or blocking an intersection. “.
Drivers must be aware of their surroundings, other road users and potential dangers when stopping.
The video quickly went viral, with followers thanking Lara for her advice and sharing their own tips.
“Good job,” one wrote while another added: “For the car in front I use the TT rule. When you stop, make sure you can see the tar and tires of the vehicle in front.”
Another stress for drivers, both licensed and in training, can be the NCT. Recent figures revealed that half of all cars tested in 2023 failed to meet minimum roadworthiness standards.
While most drivers are aware of the main problems that could cause a failure, such as tires, brakes, suspension and steering, there is another, often hidden, reason that could cause your car to be returned with a “failed” report. “.
NCT Ireland recently highlighted that corrosion is a common cause of NCT failures. The organization shared on social media: “Corrosion is a common failure in NCT. It can make vehicles extremely dangerous to drive as it can seriously reduce the strength of the component.”
Corrosion can compromise the structural integrity of a vehicle, creating serious safety problems. For example, rust can weaken essential components such as the chassis, suspension mounts, and brake lines. If these parts are compromised, it could lead to catastrophic failure while driving.
Another lesser-known visual reason for an NCT to fail could be due to the condition of the license plate bulbs. It is a legal requirement that number plates are visible at all times and if these bulbs are not working your car could fail the test.
