Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge claimed that the NDA government has been “formed by mistake” and its fall is imminent.
“The NDA government was formed by mistake. Modi ji does not have the mandate. It is a minority government. This government can fall at any time,” Kharge said in Bengaluru on June 14.
“We would like this to continue, to be good for the country,” he said, adding that “we must work together to strengthen the country. But our Prime Minister has a habit of not letting something go well to continue. But we will do it.” cooperate to strengthen the country.”
His comments come days after speculation that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was struggling to maintain its alliances.
Kharge’s claims to Prime Minister Modi and the coalition government drew a swift response from NDA allies, who asked him to provide cadres of chief ministers of the Congress-led governments.
JD(U) delved into the history of Congress-led coalition governments, questioning Kharge’s criticism by referring to the tenures of former prime ministers PV Narasimha Rao and Dr Manmohan Singh.
Former Bihar IPRD minister and JDU MLC Neeraj Kumar questioned Kharge’s intellect and asked him the scorecards of the Congress-led governments of PV Narasimha Rao and Manmohan Singh.
He reminded him that in the 1991 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress had a similar number of seats as the current BJP. Despite failing to achieve a majority, the Congress formed a minority government under Narasimha Rao. Rao’s strategic political maneuvers eventually strengthened the position of his government, making it a majority within two years.
Reacting to Kharge’s comment on the NDA government, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale says, “NDA has a clear majority. We have won 292 seats in the Lok Sabha… I advise Mallikarjun Kharge to play the opposition role…” Athawale is president of the Republican Party of India (A) and an ally of the NDA coalition.
“The only thing I can say is that by mistake they have acquired some strength…” said Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi. Manjhi is founder president of Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), which is a partner of the NDA at the Centre.
In the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls, the BJP won a total of 240 seats, short of the majority mark of 272, and the party depended on its allies to form the government.
The four allies whose support helped the BJP form the government for a record third term are N Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP, which won 16 seats, Nitish Kumar’s JDU (12), Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena (7) and the Lok Party. Janshakti-Ram by Chirag Paswan. Vilas (5).
