Kate Hudson wants you to take small steps and forgive your health “mistakes”

If there is one thing Kate Hudson What she wants us all to do when it comes to fitness and wellness in 2024 is to stop trying to do everything at once.

“I’m very lucky to have access to professionals and nutritionists,” the Knives Out actor tells HuffPost UK. “But when I think about what has helped me maintain my habits long-term, it’s the small, manageable steps that make the biggest difference.”

It’s very refreshing to hear a Hollywood star admit to having a helping hand when it comes to wellbeing, but regardless of the support surrounding her, you only need to take a look at Kate’s non-acting CV to see that. Fitness and health It is very important for the Golden Globe winner.

There’s her activewear line Fabletics, her supplement brand InBloom (God bless the collagen blend for saving our skin) and now, a partnership with MyFitnessPal, which is how HuffPost UK found us speaking to Kate about her own routine in a UK exclusive.

“We put a lot of pressure on ourselves to do everything perfectly, we just have to think about our goals realistically in relation to our day-to-day life,” he explains.

“Maybe you pack lunch today instead of buying it at a store, maybe you walk to work instead of taking the bus. It’s about eliminating little things and not destroying ourselves in an attempt to meet all the requirements.”

Her step-by-step philosophy is exactly what defines her Small Steps, Big Wins plan (created with her personal trainer Brian Nguyen) on the MyFitnessPal app.

Designed to create sustainable, lifelong habits, the free seven-day plan features seven small changes that can have a big impact on long-term health goals on topics like protein, sugar, hydration and more.

And it’s safe to say that Kate personally knows the benefits of tracking her fitness and health habits better than anyone.

“The fuel we put into our bodies can really change your life and I have been using MyFitnessPal since I started my health journey years ago. I remember I started using it because I had quit smoking and was trying to eat healthier.

“But despite trying my hardest, I just didn’t feel good, and once I started tracking, I realized I wasn’t eating enough of the right foods. Protein was a big lesson for me. But doesn’t that prove that knowledge is power?” she says.

“When we understand what we eat, we simply make different choices, and it should be accessible. I love that MyFitnessPal is free and our plan is free, too.”

As Kate explains, she is fed up with people feeling like they have to “starve themselves” and hopes to be part of the conversation to learn more about balance.

“I just want people to be given the best information possible – instead of just not eating, we need to understand what we eat. What I really enjoy now is the science behind food – how do I keep my liver happy? What should I eat to improve my workouts? This is much more beneficial than just focusing on weight loss and being afraid to talk about food.”

Another big pressure Kate doesn’t like? The whole “New Year, new me” thing.

“My goals started last year: changing your health and wellbeing shouldn’t just be a New Year’s thing, you can start at any time, removing that pressure that your only chance is at the start of another year,” she says.

“And, well, I’m not perfect! I’ve had a lot of ups and downs on my own journey to wellness. Am I smoking myself to death? I’ve also tried every fad diet you can imagine. You don’t even want to know how many nuts I was eating at any given time because it was the trendy thing at the time. Unsurprisingly, I didn’t feel great,” Kate adds with a laugh.

“The important thing is that I don’t see it as a mistake: it’s called a trip for a reason.”
