A Journey of Devotion: Avoid These Mistakes During Kanwar Yatra

The holy month of Shravan begins on July 22. This is also the time when Kanwar Yatra begins. However, there are certain precautions that need to be taken during Kanwar Yatra.

The holy month of Shravan (Saawan) is considered one of the holiest months for HindusKnown for its religious importance and celebrations, this month is dedicated to the Lord Shiva and it is considered auspicious to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva.

This year, Shravan begins on July 22. It is also the month in which the annual festival is celebrated. Kanwar Yatra takes place, during which Hindu pilgrims carry Bargain Jal (water from the river Ganga) to the shrines of Lord Shiva. A Kanwar is a pole made of bamboo to which jars are tied on both sides. Kanwars are filled with Ganga Jal and carried on foot by Kanwariyas. They bring Ganga Jal from places like Haridwar, Gaumukh and Gangotri in Uttarakhand.

People listen and sing bhajans of Lord Shiva during the Kanwar Yatra. It is believed that all wishes are fulfilled if one undertakes the Kanwar Yatra. This year, the Kanwar Yatra will begin on July 22 and end on August 3.
