“I’m a flight attendant and people who make these mistakes should stop” | Travel News | Travel

A flight attendant has shared some common mistakes that many of us make. And if you’re guilty of them, many of us need to stop doing them, and now.

Ale, known as @wonderfullyale, shared her top tips on what travelers should avoid doing while flying after nearly a decade of experience in the skies: People should refrain from standing up as soon as the plane lands. She explains: “This is very common, but don’t stand up as soon as the plane lands.

“I’m not talking about when you get to the gate, but when you land. Taxiing is one of the most critical phases of the flight, so you need to make sure you’re safe. So getting up to pick up your bag won’t help you get off the plane any faster in the first place, but it’s not the safest thing either. That’s why we recommend you sit down and you’ll be off the plane in no time.”

In her second tip, the flight attendant says that if you are eating or drinking and have trash, wait for someone to ask for it. She adds: “Another tip is not to give trash to flight attendants when they are on duty.”

“Not only do we not have trash bags with us while providing service, but it is also not very clean to handle trash and also handle other people’s food, so be sure to wait a little longer and we will walk around picking up trash.”

As for other waste, she continues: “If for some reason you end up feeling sick in your seat and use one of the bags, make sure you let the flight attendant know. Please don’t hand it to us because we have to dispose of it in a certain way – it’s considered a biohazard at the time, so we have a specific way to dispose of it.”

Finally, for parents traveling with an infant, she asks: “Try not to change the diaper at the seat because one of the three tables can break. Also, we have diaper changing tables in the bathroom, so there is a designated area to be able to change the baby’s diaper. Also, people use those straight tables to eat, so we want to take that into account as well.”

In the comments, people said they had made such mistakes themselves and had seen others make them too. One said: “Some people stood up while we were taxiing, the plane suddenly stopped and they fell into the aisle.”

Another commented: “Ugh, it’s an absolute FACT that people do this stuff…” “I hate it when people stand up! Can you please wait until it’s all nice and announced?” said a third.

However, one user noted: “Some people just want to stand up, they may have circulation issues. For me, it has nothing to do with getting off the plane faster, I just want to stretch my legs. My husband, who is tall, wants to do it too.”

In response, the flight attendant suggested: “That’s totally understandable. Do it when it’s safe to do so.”
