Undeniable mistakes made in the MCU

The most ambiguous universe in cinematic history, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the name to be reckoned with, but that doesn’t mean they haven’t made mistakes so far.

One of the most successful franchise projects in the history of cinema is the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although the superhero genre has struggled to maintain consistency over the years, under the guidance of producer and president Kevin Feige, it has been able to create some of the most exciting crossover event series. The concept of ‘Superhero Fatigue’ has been around for quite some time now and the MCU has not been spared from rumors regarding this concept. Over the years, fans have been criticizing the lack of logic in some of the movies created by this studio and it has become quite undeniable at this point. Below are some mistakes that have been pointed out by fans regarding the various Marvel Cinematic Universe projects.

Drax catches the attention of Ronan the Accuser

Viewers were introduced to a completely different group of actors and actresses when Guardians of the Galaxy arrived. But at first glance, Drax became a fan favorite because of the empathy with his character. In the movie, Drax is seen seeking revenge against Ronan the Accuser for the destruction of his entire family.

That being said, Drax makes a huge mistake, overwhelmed by anger over his family’s death by bringing it to Ronan’s attention. Because of this mistake, the Guardians split into two groups with Peter Qill played by Chris Pratt, and Gamora played by Zoe Saldana recognizing that the emotionally weak Drax is becoming a threat. They both agreed that Drax could not be trusted when put in a compromising situation that reminded him of his lost family.

Ultron as the creation of Tony Stark

Since the end of the Avengers movie gave clear hints that Thanos would become the ultimate enemy of the entire phase, Avengers: Age of Ultron felt like an old movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Ultron character played by James Spader was necessary to the plot that implied that Tony Stark had created a supervillain out of his sanctity to Thanos.

Considering the havoc wreaked by Ultron, which included the chaos created in Sokovia and the loss of the life of the Avengers’ new ally, Pietro Maximoff, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, it can be considered as the biggest mistake made by Tony Stark, although it helped him to be more careful and calculating about the consequences in the following installments of the series.

Black Widow signs the Sokovian Accords

The serious conflict between the ideologies of the Avengers members was first seen in the movie Captain America: Civil War. While the great American superhero Captain America, also known as Steve Rogers, played by Chris Evans, believed that the world was safe in his own hands, Tony Stark had a different idea. He thought that the activities of superheroes should be under government authority, and he signed the Sokovia Accords.

At first, the spy Natasha Romanoff played by Scarlett Johansson seemed to agree with Tony’s ideology but then she realized that the world was nowhere near safe in the hands of Sokovia’s allies so she decided to switch teams at the last moment. When R’Challa played by Chadwick Boseman was about to go after Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes played by Sebastian Stan, Black Widow aka Natasha Romanoff ends up paralyzing him before he could launch his own mission. This course of events led to a huge fight between Tony Stark and Natasha where he accused her of being a traitor.

Peter Quill fails to kill Thanos

Finally, all of the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy characters are seen together on screen in Avengers: Infinity War as they join hands to unleash the ultimate battle against the iconoclastic supervillain Thanos. Although Gamora had power over her abusive father due to their connection, Thanos ended up sacrificing her in order to obtain the final Infinity Stone. Peter Quill had the chance to take down Thanos but was unable to do so as he was too heartbroken to lose the one person he loved so much.

Quill’s decision not to become a cold-blooded killer can be considered a huge mistake, as it allows Thanos to get out of trouble and set in motion his evil plan that ends up becoming the plot of Avengers: Infinity War. Although the situation that Peter was going through at that time can be considered normal, but if he had not made this decision, perhaps Tony Stark would not have died.

Thor slipped at the possibility of killing Thanos

Much like Peter Quill, the God of Thunder also had a chance to kill the arch-enemy of the entire Universe, Thanos in Wakanda. But he fails to do so because he didn’t aim for the head as fans assumed. When Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth, arrived in Waklanda with Rocket Racoon, voiced by Bradly Cooper, and Groot, voiced by Vin Diesel, he failed to throw his hammer while aiming for the supervillain’s head, leading to Thanos wiping out half of the universe with just a snap of Thanos’ fingers.

Although this was a strange mistake for Thor to make, it led to one of the biggest and most surprising character twists in Avengers: Endgame and Thor: Love and Thunder from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The God of Thunder is shown to be depressed due to his previous mistakes and becomes a totally different person. But later in Thor: Love and Thunder, he redeems himself as the true hero of Asgard.

Clint Baton becomes Ronin

After Thanos managed to wipe out half of the universe with a snap of his fingers, Avengers: Endgame showed the dark and chaotic aftermath of the unfortunate event. This period turned the cinematic universe into a nightmare with the foundation of a post-apocalyptic plot. One of the calmest and most level-headed members of the Avengers, Clint Barton, played by Jeremy Renner, became a ruthless killing machine out to avenge the death of his family, called The Ronin.

Although Clint tried to leave this alias behind, the crimes committed by Ronin continued to haunt Clint Barton. This reckoning with the past eventually becomes a crucial point of contention in the Disney+ spin-off series, Hawkeye. The series revealed that Clint had kept the truth about Ronin from the people he cared about most, including his family.

Peter Parker admires Quentin Beck

Following the death of Tony Stark in Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home was the first adventure Peter Parker or Spiderman played by Tom Holland embarked on. But the loss of his mentor affected Peter badly and he made the mistake of trusting Quentin Beck played by Jake Gyllenhaal. This mistake is much more understandable to the audience as Peter is just a teenager who had lost his mentor and was in dire need of finding guidance. This overwhelming feeling clouded Spider-Man’s judgment and he ended up giving Quentin some dangerous technology.

The search for a mentor or guide led Peter to believe that Quentin is a superhero from a different dimension who has arrived to help Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson, take down a supernatural entity. Quentin later turns out to be a villainous con artist who was a former employee of Stark Industries looking to claim power for himself. The mistake made by Peter is quite understandable as his young age and distressed mental state were major contributors to this decision.

Sam Wilson denies being Captain America

Falcon and the Winter Soldier is set in the aftermath of Avengers: Endgame, where Steve Rogers, aka the great American hero Captain America, is no more and his shield is passed to Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie. But he refused to take up the mantle, fearing that he would not be able to live up to the image of Captain America. So, the US government decided to make Agent Walker, played by Wyatt Russell, the new Captain America.

Sam’s decision not to take up the shield leads to serious consequences, but this mistake is also understandable, as his level of anxiety about feeling like he’s in Captain America’s shoes as a black man is normal. After a serious turn of events, Sam Wilson finally lets go of his fear and takes on the responsibility of being the new Captain America, which eventually becomes the plot of the new Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Captain America: Brave New World, which is supposed to be released in February 2025.

Peter tried to go back in time

In Spider-Man: No Way Home, the teenage Spider-Man attempted to erase people’s memories while Doctor Strange or Steven Strange played by Benedict Cumberbatch is seen performing a critical spell. This movie is one of the biggest successes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was very successful in creating a timeline between the previous Spider-Man movies including Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man trilogy and Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man duology. The mistake of attempting to erase people’s memories and turn back time made by Peter is a horrifying one as it unleashed the villains, The Lizard played by Rhys Ifans, Electro played by Jamie Foxx, Green Goblin played by Willem Dafoe, Sandman played by Thomas Hayden Church, and good old Doctor Otto Octavian played by Alfred Molina back to the central timeline.

This mistake may be very serious, but it is considered quite understandable, as Spider-Man is just a teenager under enormous pressure and if it weren’t him but someone his age, they would have done the same. At least, that’s what fans like to think.
