Didn’t Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck get the memo? You don’t talk trash to Luka Doncic, especially when the Mavericks star is having a good time.
During the opening minutes of the second half of Game 2 on Sunday, Grousbeck felt that Doncic should have been assessed a technical foul for a play and even made Stephen Curry’s “night, night” gesture toward the Slovenian after Derrick White scored a three-pointer at the other end. .
Doncic took issue with Grousbeck’s taunts and let the C’s owner hear him after making a jumper.
The shot and taunt can be seen below.
After the game, Doncic said he thought he was talking trash to a normal fan.
“I’m sorry, I don’t know who owns the Celtics,” Doncic said.
Fortunately for the Celtics, Grousbeck’s trash talk didn’t come back to haunt his team. That’s because his decision to name Brad Stevens as president of basketball operations paid dividends in crucial stretches when Derrick White and Jrue Holiday shut down Doncic and Co. with their defense.
Stevens’ acquisitions of White, Holiday and Game 1 hero Kristaps Porzingis received plenty of praise after the Celtics took a 2-0 series lead.
“Brad Stevens is the MVP of these Finals. He built a team,” former Warriors executive Bob Myers told “NBA Countdown” on ESPN.
The Celtics, undefeated on the road in these playoffs, will look to take a 3-0 series lead on Wednesday.
