British makeup artist Wayne Goss has built a huge following on YouTube by sharing his tips and tricks on makeup application, with a channel that now has 4 million followers. He also has his own makeup range and ranges of brushes and tools.
Goss says choosing the wrong products or applying them incorrectly can give the impression that our skin is older than it really is.
“Most of us will use makeup to help improve our appearance, or even to cover some of the wrinkles we’ve acquired over the years,” says Goss.
“However, due to some mistakes, the makeup we use could actually have the opposite effect and could add not just one or two, but up to ten years to our face.”
Avoid metallic eyeshadows
Goss says shiny metallic eyeshadow doesn’t always do our eyes justice, especially on older skin.
“Avoid metallic eyeshadows and instead opt for a matte finish,” she says. “Matte generally works best because it doesn’t draw attention to wrinkled areas or creases.
Suggest choosing powder eyeshadow instead of cream as it is easier to apply. “It’s easier to blend with a good quality brush. Never blend eyeshadow with a finger. Good quality make up brushes “They are made with the intention of pairing well with hooded eyelids and fine lines.”
The type of concealer
Using the wrong tone concealer It means the makeup will look obvious. The expert says it’s worth taking more time to find the perfect match.
“Generally speaking, people can lighten their eye area too much with concealer, which can add years to your face, so it’s very important to get the color that suits your skin tone,” says Goss.
He likes a cream concealer over a very liquid one. “I highly recommend applying a little to the inner corner of your eye, as it’s the only part of your eye that doesn’t crease.”
Don’t forget to hydrate
The importance of adding long-lasting hydration to your face can’t be understated, says the makeup artist.
“As we age, our skin naturally becomes drier, which is why hydrating ingredients are so important as we age,” she says.
Suggest looking for skin care and makeup with ingredients like hyaluronic acid when you’re on your next shopping trip, to make sure your products keep your skin hydrated.
In older skin a thick moisturizing cream can help our complexion retain moisture that helps fill in fine lines and create healthy-looking skin.
“Before you start applying anything to your face, make sure you’ve applied a heavy moisturizer to ensure your skin stays hydrated,” says Goss.
Use a primer
TO makeup primer It’s another must-have, Goss reveals. It will help create a softer canvas for your makeup and help give the color something to hold on to, say power.
“Use a good foundation before you start applying makeup to make sure it acts as a barrier between your skin and makeup to help makeup stay in the right places throughout the day, rather than just on fine lines “, Explain.
