Remember a few months ago when Candice LeRae suddenly faced poor Maxxine Dupri in the middle of an otherwise forgettable Raw tag team match?
It was very strange and uncomfortable.
Taking the real-life negativity Dupri had received due to her performance at a WWE live event and using it to try to generate some heat, LeRae attacked her opponent with unnecessary comments such as, “it’s a good thing your brother’s dead.” He’s not here to see what a shame you’ve become.”
However, in the weeks following the March 11 attack, this controversial figure seemed strangely to recede.
Instead of increasing the intensity and continuing down this wild path, LeRae simply began using generic gimmicks to cheat her way to victory in her matches, all while pushing her initially frustrating and clueless partner Indi Hartwell into heel territory.
In reality, WWE had secretly and cleverly decided to pivot away from LeRae as the type of character who brings up dead relatives mid-match, and that outburst from Dupri reportedly didn’t go down too well with the people backstage.
And her lazy attempts to make you forget about it and now introduce LeRae as Raw’s new cowardly villain by simply having her use the ropes to win and aim for her opponent’s injured limbs didn’t exactly make fans fume in their seats, or even nothing. sound, really.
Would it really have been that difficult to push her as a plucky, baby-faced Bachelor star?
