THE bathroom may be one of the smallest rooms in your home, but style decisions can make a big difference.
In fact, interiors expert and founder of UK Radiators, Rob Nezard, says he’s seen more than his share of mistakes.
He says, “Don’t let these bathroom faux pas ruin your relaxation space.”
Here she shares the three most common mistakes homeowners have been making for years and how to fix them: Transform your space to create a sanctuary in your own home.
Overlooking storage
Rob says underestimating the need for storage is one of the most common mistakes people make.
“Clutter can build up quickly, making the bathroom look cluttered and feel overwhelming,” she revealed.
“If your bathroom lacks storage solutions, consider adding wall cabinets, floating shelves, or stylish baskets to keep essentials organized.
“A vanity with built-in storage can also provide much-needed space for toiletries and towels, helping you maintain a clean and tidy bathroom.”
Poor lighting options
Lighting is often an afterthought in bathroom design, but it plays a crucial role in creating a functional and welcoming space, according to Rob.
He says: “Bright overhead lighting can be unflattering and impractical, especially for tasks such as shaving or applying makeup.
“To solve this problem, layer the lighting with a combination of ambient, task and accent lights.”
She also recommends installing dimmable ceiling lights, adding sconces or vanity lights around the mirror, and considering under-cabinet lighting to enhance the overall ambiance and functionality of your bathroom.
Ignoring the radiator
Rob says the radiator is an essential element in the bathroom, but is often overlooked in terms of style and location.
“An old, rusty radiator can detract from the overall aesthetic of the space,” he notes.
“If your radiator is an eyesore, update it with a sleek, modern design that complements your decor.
“Heated towel racks are a fantastic option, offering warmth and a comfortable place to hang your towels.
“Make sure your radiator is the right size so your bathroom maintains a comfortable temperature, especially during the colder months.”
