Dansby Swanson’s signing to the Chicago Cubs may have been a mistake

When the Chicago Cubs signed shortstop Dansby Swanson before last season, they thought they were getting a potential superstar. Unfortunately, reality has not lived up to expectations.

At times, Swanson has been the key piece the Cubs thought they were signing. But, for most of his first two years with the team, he has been a major disappointment.

This Day in Chicago Sports took to X and made a post about how bad Swanson has been so far in his 207 games with Chicago.

Every true Cubs fan knows how bad the Jason Heyward signing ended up being. In many ways, Swanson is off to an even worse start with the franchise.

It’s hard to believe, but facts are facts.

At 30 years old, Swanson is in the best moment of his career. He was coming off a great season with the Atlanta Braves the year before Chicago hired him.

In the 2022 season with the Braves, he hit .277/.329/.447 along with 25 home runs and 96 RBIs. He had a decent season in 2023 with the Cubs, but has been terrible to start 2024.

So far this season in 61 games, he has only contributed six home runs and 19 RBIs. He has hit .212/.291/.349.

Chicago looks to turn its season around amid major recent struggles. If the team is going to do that, it will need Swanson to turn around his slump.

If things continue the way they have, the Cubs made a big mistake by giving Swanson such a lucrative contract. He has failed to come close to expectations and has been one of the main causes of the team’s offensive problems.

There is still plenty of time to change things, but you need to do it soon.
