Manchester United have installed Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite as their top target for the summer transfer window, but the Toffees are demanding a huge fee for his signature.
Manchester United have been warned it would be “madness” to pay £70m for Jarrad Branthwaite.
United have made the Everton centre-back half their number one defensive transfer target this summer and made an initial offer of around £34m plus add-ons. However, Everton value English prospect Branthwaite in the £70m class and, despite his financial problems, refuse to sell him cheap.
But now a team of football experts who analyze players and their value have put Branthwaite’s transfer value at a staggeringly low £22m. ETV (Estimated Transfer Value) is a market-leading transfer valuation algorithm designed and developed over five years by Dutch data company SciSports.
And his verdict on Branthwaite says the 21-year-old centre-half is currently hugely overrated. Their verdict reads: “Value has increased significantly over the last 12 months (in October 2023 it was valued at €5.3m/£4.5m) as it has moved up a level from playing in the Eredivisie until playing in the regular Premier League. .
“He also signed a long-term contract in October 2023 which influences his ETV. But based on the work done so far (less than 50 Premier League appearances), talk of Everton wanting £80m is crazy. “Absolutely looks like the Manchester United tax/English young players tax is in play again.”
United paid £85m for Harry Maguire and yet his transfer has been mixed, but they are still ready to do something big for Branthwaite again and are expected to bid again.
ETV has rated more than 240,000 players in more than 250 leagues around the world and the algorithm is already used in 30 major European clubs, taking into account performance, age and contract length.
