Sri Lanka Captain Wanindu Hasaranga believes they have discussed at length their repeated mistakes in big tournaments and now is the time to shift their focus towards rectifying those failings, after the ignominy of another group league elimination.

Hasaranga termed his team’s 83-run victory against the Netherlands as coming “too late”. Sri Lanka’s middle order was brilliant with the veteran Angel Mateo (30 off 15 balls) and captain Hasaranga (20 off 10 balls) propped up the scoring rate, but it was left-hander Charith Asalanka’s 21 balls and 46 that made the real difference in their innings. Asalanka smashed five sixes as Sri Lanka crossed the 200-run mark. Slinger Nuwan Untilhara (3-24) was the pick of the Lankan bowlers. “After every tournament, we meet and discuss that we made several mistakes. As a team, we have to decide if we have to rectify those mistakes. I think we have not rectified them yet. As a captain, I am very sorry for this,” Hasaranga said.
