Max in Barcelona: ‘Aspire to a weekend without errors’

Max Verstappen addressed the international media in the run-up to this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix from the Circuit de Barcelona Catalunya. Looking ahead to the tenth race of the season, the Oracle Red Bull Racing driver said: “The last two races were more complicated for us, but each track is different. In Barcelona it’s more about aerodynamics and high-speed corners. This track should suit our car, because it is not so bumpy and it is not necessary to use the curbs. It is an easier path, but everyone has a lot of information because we have been here so often.
After nine races, the current world champion leads the standings with 56 points. Compared with the previous season, the points advantage is less dominant. “In the last few races, the teams have been more united and I expect the same here in qualifying. Small details can make a big difference, which is why it is important to have a weekend without errors. That’s what we always aim for. I’m looking forward to it; It is a great circuit.”
Do you like winning races with a big lead or having to fight for it like in Montreal? “There are always races where things are closer together, which means more pressure, so you have to be closer to the limit. That is normal and has always been that way. I enjoyed the race in Montreal, but I also enjoy getting the best out of myself and the car and winning by twenty seconds. But I’m not afraid of the competition, so I’m happy with both.”
