NIBONG TEBAL: Stressing that both contenders in the Sungai Bakap by-election have their own strengths, Perikatan Nasional candidate Abidin Ismail said he accepted complaints about his academic credentials.
Abidin, who was campaigning for the seat, said it was normal to make comparisons between the two candidates.
“The important thing is that each of us has our own strengths.
“It’s okay if people want to complain about the erroneous announcement about ISO14001-2015 certification.
“It’s his personal perception,” he told reporters when met during a stroll through the Taman Pekatra night market on Monday (June 24) night.
Abidin, 56, responded to questions about PAS vice-president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, stating that the former had an ISO14001-2015 certification during his candidacy announcement.
Abidin said it was an honest mistake.
“It is normal to make mistakes. The ISO is only for companies and statutory bodies,” he added.
Abidin then shared that he had received good support from the public during the last three days of campaigning.
“Everyone has been kind and told me about their problems.
“Their concern is the increase in the prices of goods,” he said.
Abidin is locked in a direct fight for the Sungai Bakap state seat by-election with Dr Joohari Ariffin, 60, of Pakatan Harapan, following the death of incumbent Nor Zamri Latiff on May 24 due to inflammation of the stomach.
The Electoral Commission (EC) has set July 6 for the elections and a 14-day campaign period that will run from June 22 to 11:59 p.m. on July 5.
