An Australian girl was left devastated after getting a $120 tattoo in Bali – but it went “horribly wrong” thanks to a simple oversight by the tattoo artist.
Tearful 19-year-old influencer Tia Kabir said she went to the popular Indonesian island with the intention of getting her long-awaited ‘Generation Z-style tattoo’, but was horrified by what she was left with.
“So I came to Bali to get a tattoo, right? And I’ve been dreaming about getting this tattoo because I don’t get tattoos all the time…” the Canberra resident said in a subsequent TikTok video.
It was to say “Angel Energy”, a phrase meaning that he has celestial energy that he can transmit to others. But what she got instead was ‘Energy Angel’.
Speaking to Yahoo News Australia, Kabir recalled how the mistake occurred at the Kuta tattoo parlour.
“I printed out the template, they put it on my arm, but since my arms are so small, they needed to make the template a little smaller,” he said. “I looked at it afterwards and figured it would be fine while they did it.
“Then my partner looks at it and says ‘why does it say energy angel?’… I cried hysterically in front of them and asked them how they were going to fix this.”
The tattoo artist initially tried to convince her that it looked good, she told Yahoo, and even offered to enhance it a bit with a halo, a suggestion she found “ridiculous.”
On Sunday, Ms Kabir shared a tearful video about the unfortunate mistake, which quickly garnered more than 2.2 million views at the time of writing.
“OMG, babe,” one person said with condolences. “I’d cry too if I got the wrong tattoo,” said another.
“Sounds like an energy drink,” a third person mocked.
However, many didn’t understand how she didn’t “check it” while getting the tattoo.
“I’M SCREAMING! Sorry, but didn’t you check the template?” one person said. “This story will last you forever. We hope you look back and laugh someday!”
Others also offered words of encouragement and advice, saying that ‘Energy Angel’ even “sounds better.” “That’s cool, there’s a story behind it too,” said another.
While some speculated that the video was fake, she emphasizes that it really happened.
Influencer corrects tattoo error
The influencer said the end result wasn’t “something (she) wanted on her body,” and after much discussion, the salon agreed to have her return later that day to make some small changes to her new body art.
“I came up with ‘Energy of an Angel,’ which brings back the meaning. I want to give angelic energy vibes to people,” he added.
She also took the opportunity to warn others to “quadruple check everything they get done” at a Bali tattoo shop.
“The moment you take your eyes off something, it could go horribly wrong. It will be a story I will never forget… at least it wasn’t the ‘energy angle’.”
