I am a dentist: the daily mistake you are making that causes yellow teeth and the best ways to whiten them from home

Dental expert Dr. Shaadi Manouchehri has shared her best tips on how to avoid yellow teeth with just a few simple habits.

In a clip on her account @dr.shaadi.manouchehri, she shared how one should avoid brushing their teeth after some surprising moments.

Dr Shaadi said: “There are three times when you should never brush your teeth. I’m a dentist and this is the only time you’ll see me telling you not to brush your teeth. Let’s get into it.”

DO NOT BRUSH AFTER BEING SICK

The first thing you usually do after vomiting is brush your teeth, but the expert warns against this.

She explained: “This is probably all you want to do after you’ve thrown up, but in reality, the contents of your stomach are extremely acidic and your teeth are made up of minerals.

“So when the contents of the stomach reach the mouth, then the mouth is very acidic, and if you brush your teeth immediately, you are rubbing even more of that acid onto the teeth.

“So, wait at least 30 to 60 minutes before brushing your teeth.

“To start, what you can do is rinse with some mouthwash and drink some water to help neutralize the acid faster.”

AVOID BRUSHING AFTER COFFEE

Dr. Shaadi said you should also avoid brushing your teeth after coffee, because it is also acidic.

He said that if you add milk and sugar, the heartburn can get even worse.

The dental expert continued: “It’s exactly the same concept. If you brush your teeth right away, you’re rubbing the acid onto the tooth and wearing it down.

“Wait at least 30 to 60 minutes. You don’t actually need to brush your teeth, just rinse with mouthwash or drink water.”

DO NOT BRUSH AFTER BREAKFAST

The third example he gave for avoiding brushing your teeth was after breakfast (in fact it should be done before).

She explained: “Brush them first because if you do it right away you’re going to be damaging your enamel.

“Actually, when you wake up in the morning you have quite a lot of bacteria in your mouth and you need to brush them before having breakfast.”

FOODS TO AVOID

In addition to tea and coffee, carbonated drinks, citrus drinks, and red wine can also cause stains on your teeth.

This is due to its high sugary and/or acidic properties, which can be abrasive.

You should also be careful with foods such as tomato-based sauces, curries and berries, which can cause enamel erosion.

BE CAREFUL WITH HOME KITS

Many people recommend finding toothpastes with ingredients like baking soda and hydrogen peroxide to help with whitening, but you have to be careful.

Although tons of celebrities rave about them, at-home whitening kits, including strips, won’t work as well as the real thing.

They can also be harmful, because unless you personally place a gum guard in your mouth, the whitening ingredient can leach into your gums and lips.

If that’s not enough to put you off, “strips erode the outer layer of your teeth, making them more sensitive and susceptible to cavities,” said Hussein and Hassan Dalghous, twin dentists and founders of Yorkshire Dental Suite.

“In addition, many non-professional blue light products temporarily dehydrate teeth, which can cause damage and only offer minimal short-term results.”

Legally, over-the-counter products can only contain a maximum amount of 0.1 percent hydrogen peroxide (the material that whitens teeth), while professional kits can have up to six percent.

Products purchased online may not comply with UK regulations and may contain dangerously high levels of bleach.

TEA IS WORSE

Coffee is undoubtedly a drink to limit when it comes to keeping your teeth sparkling.

But contrary to popular belief, it’s not the worst offender – tea is!

“Both contain tannins that stain teeth,” said Ellie Busby, a registered nutritionist at Vojo.

“There are some good news However, for milk coffee lovers, because adding milk to tea and coffee is believed to reduce this effect.”

Kent Express dental expert Chris Moffatt said: “Coffee generally has a lower tannin content than tea.

“However, it alters the pH of the mouth, making teeth more vulnerable to other stains.”

“Tannins are not only found in breakfast tea, but also in green tea and many herbal teas.”

Ellie suggested red bush tea, which is naturally caffeine- and tannin-free and won’t stain teeth.

Dentist-Approved Teeth Whitening Tips

ERIN Fraundorf, DMD, MSD, owner of BOCA Orthodontic + Whitening Studio in Missouri, shared her top tips for whiter teeth.

Seek whitening treatment from a professional.. It is often stronger and will be the most effective so you don’t waste your money on a product that doesn’t work or can harm you. Also, you only get one set of teeth, so it’s best not to experiment with them.

Consider the cause of the staining. There are numerous reasons why teeth may have a yellowish or brown tone. Be sure to have a professional evaluate and diagnose you to ensure you receive the best treatment for your spots. Not all stains are the same, so they may require different treatments.

Consider your lifestyle, smile goals and budget.. When choosing the whitening treatment that is best for you, consider multiple factors when designing a personalized plan. Some people like to do their homework on whitening at home, others prefer in-office treatments only, others need to get really bright really quickly (for a wedding, for example), while others would like a more gentle whitening approach, gradual and consistent.

Calm down. Start integrating teeth whitening into your routine gradually so that your teeth get used to it and you can closely monitor their sensitivity level to regulate how often you can whiten.

Try to prevent. Make small changes to your lifestyle in an effort to prevent stains from penetrating your teeth. For example, drink staining beverages through a straw, swish under plain water after drinking anything staining, and choose still water over sparkling water whenever possible.

Use dental floss to help with stains between your teeth. Remove stubborn stains between your teeth with dental floss, because toothbrush bristles can only reach a limited portion of the tooth surface.

Teeth whitening at the dentist is the most successful because the whitening gel contains the highest level of hydrogen peroxide.

With a dentist, a gum guard will be molded to your teeth. Then, you apply the whitening gel to the guards and wear it on your teeth overnight or for several hours during the day.

After approximately two to four weeks, depending on the desired shade, the teeth will be brighter.

It is not offered for free in the National Health Service except for medical reasons. Therefore, privately it will cost between £150 and £700 depending on the treatment offered by the dentist.

Unfortunately, it is not a one-time procedure: it will need to be repeated to maintain the same level of shine. But the rate is lower for “refills.”
