There are many differences that I have noticed when I go out at night outside of Liverpool.
One big difference I noticed was the queuing technique. In Liverpool we all just stand at the bar and trust that our fellow drinker next to us knows you are ahead of them and so on.
There’s nothing like standing in line for a drink in the school canteen. Plus, I’ve noticed that going for “una ronda” is not as common as when you’re out of town.

However, I realized something else that was completely different and I found out the hard way.
When ordering a round at the bar, it’s almost an unwritten rule to tell the bar staff to “bring your own glass” knowing that they’ll put 20 or 50p in the tip jar. But that doesn’t seem to be the case in other parts of the UK.
Let us know in the comments below anything else you’ve noticed that isn’t the same outside of Liverpool.
I stayed in Southampton one night after the Liverpool FC game at St Mary’s and after the game we went out for a couple of drinks. While you’re doing that you start a round and at the next pub I was due to go to the bar.
I ordered three pints, a Guinness and a Diet Coke, and told the young employee to “have whatever he wanted.” What I didn’t expect was for the waiter to take it literally and add a double gin and tonic for an extra £8.60.
I was taken aback, but reluctantly paid for the drink, accepting that “take your own” clearly doesn’t mean the same as it does in Liverpool.
Maybe it’s a generational tradition that’s disappearing, but I learned my lesson the hard way and I’ll know I won’t make the same mistake again.
