Rhys Andrews has taken to social media to tell people that washing your hair before going to the hairdressers is completely pointless.

The stylist, from South Wales, took to TikTok to say: “Why do clients still feel obliged to wash their hair before going to an appointment?

“I have had two this morning only.

“Not only is it a waste of time, but honey, I want your hair dirty.

“I want your greasy hair.

She continued: “Not only is it my job to wash your hair and leave it clean and shiny and smelling lovely, but those oils on your scalp protect it from color.

“We’re putting chemicals on your head and this oil, this dirt and this little buildup is protecting your hair.”

Rhys said any client who walks into his salon gets a “slap on the wrist” from him.

Addressing other hairdressers, he advised them to educate their clients to prevent them from coming to the salon with clean hair.

The hairstylist’s video, which was posted under the username @rhysandhair, has gone viral, racking up more than 328,000 views on the video-sharing platform.

One person said: “They literally tell me to wash my hair before my hairdresser comes to cut my hair.”

Another person added: “I’ve seen numerous videos of hairdressers shaming people who don’t wash their hair before coming in.”

A third person said: “I often go days without washing my hair and once my hairdresser had to wash my hair before dyeing it because it was so greasy.

A fourth added: “This makes sense, but why don’t more hairdressers tell us this?”
