With the Nintendo Switch 2 just around the corner, fans are worried that resellers might not be able to get their hands on one. However, it seems Nintendo has a plan to prevent this from happening again.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Nintendo Switch units were hard to come by as millions of budding gamers sought out the portable console to pass the time.

Additionally, there was a global semiconductor shortage in 2021, which meant that Nintendo’s console was even harder to come by, and that’s without even mentioning scalpers; people who bought the Nintendo Switch in bulk to sell it at higher prices.
Now that the Nintendo Switch 2 is almost here, fans are understandably worried that it will be nearly impossible to get their hands on one. However, Nintendo has assured fans that this won’t be the case.
In a question-and-answer session during a shareholder meeting, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa explained how the company would address any stock shortages.
“As a measure against scalping, we believe the most important thing is to produce a sufficient quantity to meet customer demand, and this idea has not changed since last year,” Furukawa said (via IGN).
“In addition to this, we are considering whether there are other measures that can be taken to the extent permitted by laws and regulations, taking into account the circumstances of each region.”
They also hope that an abundant supply will help solve the problem with resellers.
“Although we were unable to produce enough Nintendo Switch units last year and the year before due to a shortage of semiconductor components, this situation has now been resolved,” Furukawa said. “For the time being, we do not believe that the component shortage will have a significant impact on production of the successor model.”
News about the Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to be revealed at the end of Nintendo’s current fiscal year, which ends in March 2025.
