Identical-looking athletes who share the same name explain the awkward mistake that led them to discover each other existed

Two baseball stars who look identical and have the same name found out about each other’s existence through a mistake.

It’s one thing to have someone who looks like you, but these two guys also share the same name in a situation that can only be described as pretty weird.

Brady Feigl, 28, and Brady Feigl, 33, are two baseball players who could easily be mistaken for brothers.

Both athletes are 1.93 m tall, have red hair, wear red teddy bears and wear almost identical glasses. To make matters even stranger, not only do they play baseball professionally, but they are both pitchers for their respective teams.

The elder of the two Feigls plays for the Pittsburgh Pirates, while Fiegel, 28, previously played for the Ole Miss Rebels and is currently a free agent.

With their uncanny resemblance in mind, the couple took a DNA test to see if they were related or not.

But to everyone’s surprise, the results revealed that they are not long-lost brothers after all.

However, the two Feigls on record were shown to be 53 percent Germanic in origin.

While you’d expect it to be baseball fans who tipped them off to each other’s existence, it was actually a 2015 gaffe that brought the pair together.

Both underwent Tommy John surgery (a type of procedure on a person’s elbow) months apart and by the same surgeon, Dr. James Andrews.

Explaining the awkward situation, former Rebels pitcher Feigl told the Clarion Ledger in 2018: “The way we actually found out was through Dr. Andrews’ office. He’s the guy that performed both surgeries.

“It was six or seven months after the surgery and his office called our trainer and said, ‘Hey, when is Brady coming in for surgery? Is he coming in tomorrow?’ He said, ‘He had it six months ago. What are you talking about?’

“That’s how I found out there were two of us.”

Mind = impressed.

A couple of years later, the two baseball stars mixed again.

Mary Claire Hamner, a graduate assistant in marketing at Ole Miss, went to tweet a happy birthday to her pitcher and accidentally tagged the wrong (but identical-looking) Feigl.

“I was wrong, Brady Feigl,” the former San Diego Padres player responded. “Maybe he’s looking for @bfeigl39…”

Oops.
