Indian wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan has lauded the Rohit Sharma-led team following the 2024 T20 World Cup victory in West Indies and the United States of America (USA). Ishan Kishan urged fans to pray for the Men in Blue’s victory in the 2025 Champions Trophy, which will be played in Pakistan.
The Rohit Sharma-led side beat Aiden Markram-led South Africa in the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup in Barbados on June 29. The Men in Blue became the third team after West Indies and England to secure two T20 titles. India ended an 11-year ICC trophy drought with a seven-wicket win.
Rohit Sharma joined Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni as the third Indian captain to win a World Cup. Rohit and his team celebrated with fans during a victory parade in Mumbai on Thursday. The Team India contingent took out an open-top bus parade with the T20 World Cup trophy from Marine Drive to the Wankhede Stadium.
During the felicitation ceremony, BCCI officials presented the Rohit Sharma-led team with a cheque of Rs 125 crore as a reward for winning the ICC event. Three star Indian cricketers Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from T20Is after the successful World Cup campaign.
We must pray for India to win the Champions Trophy 2025 – Ishan Kishan
Speaking to PTI, Ishan Kishan said the Rohit Sharma-led team performed outstandingly in the summit clash despite making some mistakes in the ICC T20 tournament. Ishan urged everyone to support and pray for their success in the upcoming Champions Trophy.
“India have won. We should all pray for their victory in the upcoming Champions Trophy. We made a few mistakes, but the way we played and won, it was what we expected from the team,” says cricketer Ishan Kishan on India’s T20 World Cup victory.
When was the last time Ishan Kishan played for Team India?
Ishan Kishan was not included in the squad for the recently concluded T20 World Cup. The left-handed batsman was also not included in the reserve squad for the upcoming series against Zimbabwe. Team India will field a young squad for the T20I, with Shubman Gill captaining the team for the first time.
The BCCI excluded Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer from their annual central contract earlier this year, despite playing regularly for the Indian cricket team. The BCCI took the decision after both players refused to participate in domestic cricket, despite repeated warnings from the team management and the captain.
The 25-year-old cricketer last played for the Indian team in a T20I match against Australia in November 2023. The Jharkhand-born cricketer left midway through the South Africa tour last year. He was not considered for selection after the Test series against South Africa, where India managed to draw 1-1.
