A world-renowned makeup artist has revealed the three mistakes women make that “add years to their face.”

Wayne Goss, who became famous for his transformational makeup tutorials on YouTube, told FEMAIL that all three mistakes are “easy to fix.”

The problem is that most people don’t realize where they went wrong.

“Most of us will use makeup to enhance our appearance or even to cover up some of the wrinkles we’ve developed over the years,” she explained.

‘However, due to some mistakes, the makeup we use could actually have the opposite effect and could potentially be adding not just one or two, but up to 10 years to our face.’

Using metallic eyeshadow, the wrong concealer, and not prepping your face for foundation are the most common mistakes that cause aging.

Avoid metallic eyeshadows

Mr Goss recommends opting for classic matte eyeshadows rather than bolder metallic colours.

Mr Goss, who has his own cosmetics line, often shares tutorials with his four million YouTube subscribers.

“Matte finish usually works best because it doesn’t draw attention to wrinkled areas or creases,” she said.

Metallic eyeshadows cling to fine lines, making them stand out rather than hiding them.

The type of corrector

Wayne wants people to be more careful with their concealer.

“Generally speaking, people can use concealer that is too light around the eyes, which can add years to the face, so it’s really important to get the color that suits your skin tone,” she said.

Wayne always recommends cream concealer over liquid versions and says to apply a little on the inner corner of your eye as it’s the only part of the eye that never creases.

Always hydrate and use a primer

Skin becomes drier with age, so choosing moisturizing ingredients is important and can make or break your appearance.

“Next time you go shopping for makeup and skincare products, look for makeup ingredients like hyaluronic acid to ensure your products keep your skin hydrated,” said Wayne Goss.

You should also start with a strong moisturizer before applying makeup, which will plump the skin and give it a more youthful appearance.

Wayne stressed that it is crucial to invest in a good foundation to apply on top of moisturizer and under makeup.

Primers act as a soft “barrier” between makeup and skin.

This “will help your makeup stay in the right places throughout the day, rather than just in the fine lines,” she said.
