“The Bachelorette” is back with Jenn Tran looking for love.
The season 21 premiere of “The Bachelor” spinoff aired Monday night, with Tran as the first Asian lead. Tran, a 26-year-old physician assistant student who previously competed for Joey Graziadei’s heart, met 28 eligible suitors, including one man from upstate New York who made a huge mistake.
“I’m going to flirt with a lot of men!” Jenn said at the beginning of the episode. “Tonight, I’m going to meet my future husband.”
Among the limousines arriving on the ABC reality show were Marcus, a former Army Ranger; Sam N., a “love virgin” (because he’s never been in love before) from California; Thomas N., a retirement advisor who gives Jenn a friendship bracelet; a bottle-corking sommelier named Dakota; “pet portrait entrepreneur” Spencer; a puppy-loving physical therapist named Tomas; brothers Aaron and Jeremy, who overcompensate for others; and Johnathan, who arrives “love-sick” in a hospital gown with bandages over his face.
Caleb “Moze” Smith, a handsome 25-year-old algebra teacher from Albany, didn’t seem to make a great first impression. He brought his math skills to the board, but that doesn’t mean “Moze + Jenn = true love.”
Smith, a graduate of La Salle High School in Troy, is a former wide receiver at Towson University who played professional football for the XFL and the Indoor Football League. His father, Rodney Smith, previously played for the Albany Firebirds in the Arena Football League and was inducted into the Towson Hall of Fame in 2000.
However, Moze stood out when she started a group game of Truth or Dare. When asked if she had ever “ignored anyone,” she admitted: “All the time!”
According to Entertainment Weekly, Jenn’s face “scrunched up” while fellow contestant Hakeem reacted with wide eyes like Jim Halpert on “The Office.” After all, he just admitted that he made a huge dating mistake.
“I don’t know anything about that,” Jenn said of Moze.
Oh, she knew right away that he wasn’t going to get a rose. Big mistake, Moze.
Moze was sent home during the rose ceremony, along with Brendan, Brett, Dakota, Kevin, Matt and Ricky.
“At this point, Moze is probably regretting her decision to brag about ignoring a group of women,” Entertainment Weekly wrote.
Maybe not. Moze posted a screenshot of her “Bachelorette” appearance on Instagram, showing her occupation listed as “Professional Ghoster.”
“I appreciate all the love and support,” wrote @moze.dangerous. “It’s so much!”
Meanwhile, Sam M. received the first impression rose, and the rest of the guys invited to the next episode include Dylan, Thomas N., Spencer, Grant, Marcus, Tomas A., John M., Jeremy, Devan, Brian, Aaron, Jahaan, Hakeem, Jonathon, Austin, Marvin, and Sam N. They will all be heading to Australia, mixing things up with the traditional Bachelor Mansion setting.
“The Bachelorette” airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. Episodes are also available to watch the next day on Hulu.
