Biden admits mistakes but rules out withdrawing from US presidential race

WASHINGTON | TASS | US President Joe Biden has admitted that he makes many mistakes in his speeches and mixes up names, but he ruled out withdrawing from the presidential race.

“You may have noticed that since the debate, the press and the good people out there have been attacking me. I make a lot of mistakes,” he said at a campaign event in Michigan. “They’ve been attacking me because I sometimes mix up names. I say ‘Charlie’ instead of ‘Bill,’” Biden said, adding that little attention was being paid to similar gaffes by his main opponent, former US President Donald Trump.

“You’ve probably noticed that there’s been a lot of speculation lately. What is Joe Biden going to do? Is he going to stay in the race? Is he going to drop out? Here’s my answer: I’m going to run and we’re going to win. I’m not going to change that,” Biden said.

“My campaign is falling apart, they say. I am the Democratic Party candidate, the only Democrat or Republican who has ever beaten Donald Trump, and I am going to beat him again,” he added.

The US presidential election will be held on November 5. Trump has already secured the Republican presidential nomination. Biden, who is seeking a second term, has secured enough delegates to secure the Democratic nomination. Both candidates were expected to be approved as presidential candidates at their party conventions, but following Biden’s failure in the June 27 election debate with Trump, there are growing calls for Biden to withdraw from the race.

Introducing Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky in Washington on Thursday, Biden mistakenly called him “President Putin.”
