Talks between Meghan Markle, Prince Harry and the royal family are continuing, but there are two glaring issues the estranged couple will need to “fix” before things get better.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are under fire for two major gaffes.
The couple’s split from the British royal family is becoming more devastating by the day, as talks about how to repair their relationship appear to have stalled. After all, the couple’s past decisions reportedly “set off alarm bells” before everything completely fell apart.
The first issue was a moment of foreshadowing that reportedly even left the late Queen Elizabeth II worried. Meghan sought advice from her grandmother-in-law on how to handle her estranged relationship with her father, who is now turning 80 and hasn’t heard from Meghan in years.

At the time, the Queen advised Meghan to write a letter. Meghan had previously told Oprah in the interview: “I reached out to Her Majesty and said, ‘This is what’s going on. What do you want me to do? I want… any advice you have.’ In the end, the Queen and the Prince of Wales suggested I write a letter to my father.”
Meghan took the advice, but her father, who had hoped it would be an olive branch, described it as “a dagger in the heart.” Meghan’s uneasy relationship with her family was a concern for the Queen, the Daily Mail reports. A source said: “Meghan’s public disagreements with her father set off alarm bells at the time. Her Majesty realised the potential damage they could cause to the wider Royal Family. Looking back, the Queen may have had an inkling of what was to come.”
Her father told the Mail: “I’ve never been a big fan of birthdays but I know the person I want to hear from most, Meghan, won’t be getting in touch with me… I’d love to meet my grandchildren but at this stage I’d settle for a photograph.”
As for the second concern, Queen Camilla felt aggrieved after comments Harry made about her in his memoir, Spare. The Duke of Sussex branded his stepmother a “villain” who was so highly regarded in the public eye that she was considered “dangerous.”
The Queen took it as a blow and her friend came to her defence. Fiona Shelburne told the Sunday Times: “Of course it bothers her, of course it hurts her, but she doesn’t let it affect her. Her philosophy is always: ‘Just don’t make a big deal of it and it will calm down; the less you say it, the sooner it will be sorted out.'”
Royal expert and Daily Mail commentator Richard Eden wrote an opinion piece citing these two moments as critical issues that need to be addressed before the family can see progress in their relations. He said these issues are things that “need to be sorted out,” adding: “Maybe it’s time to sort some things out in Britain.”
